"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world."
Psalm 19:1-6 |
For months, and even years, leading up to the beginning of Park Street's Green Initiative, the Lord had placed a burden to better care for His creation of the hearts of many Park Streeters. In Spring 2008, He brought a small group of staff, elders and congregants together to ask the question, "How can we better glorify God by better caring for the works of His hands?" In our journey to answer this question, we've found that many aspects of the current environmental dilemma have spiritual roots. As we fight as believers to conquer our own tendencies towards materialsim, consumerism, greed, laziness, and discontentment, we anticipate that we will find more than simple answers to environmental problems – we'll find hearts that are closer to God's, a church body finding joy in the midst of sacrifice and a world more willing to listen to a gospel that transforms every aspect of our lives – including the way we use our natural resources.
